Net-acct

What and Why

Net-acct is an IP traffic metering program. It produces a logfile containing entries for each network conversation with details of source and destination address, source and destination port (for TCP and UDP), time, packets and number of bytes. It can count traffic travelling through the logging machine or can listen in promiscuous mode to traffic passing by on a network.

The previous website which held net-acct (http://www.bladesinger.com/net-acct/) has been unavailable every time I have looked for several months now, so I have decided to put copies of the versions I have up here so the software does not vanish. I have been using net-acct in several ISP setups which I am managing or to which I have consulted over the last four years and it has been useful not just in metering traffic, but also as a network security audit log, so I want to make it available for download to others who may find it useful.

I do not have much spare time, so I can not perform major modifications or do much bugfixing, so I make no promises.

The Files
